Success Tips Out of The Gate for the FYM Summer Challenge

July 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

3 Month Fitness Challenge

I decided to brainstorm and IMPLEMENT some fitness challenge success tips right off the starting line, while I'm gearing up to participate in the second Fit Yummy Mummy Transformation Challenge.

This time around I know straight off what I need to concentrate on to take it up a notch and deflect some of the things that I found myself lacking on last time around.

It seems to be mostly in the area of what we're eating and being prepared to eat more healthy, live foods.

Also I'm rested up and have taken a break, so I am raring to make the extra effort.

Gearing Up for the Fit Yummy Mummy Challenge - Round 2!

July 1st, 2008 · No Comments

Fitness Coach

Here it is, a beautiful summer day and I am so excited.

Since finishing the Spring Fit Yummy Mummy Challenge, things have been holding, going up and down here and there but I have not been consistently motivated as I was during the challenge.

There's something about being on a team with the same purpose and goals in mind, the accountability and the support that takes my efforts from mediocre to WOW.

The conversations and knowledge inside of Club FYM always keep it interesting and peak my motivation as well. It's never boring!

NOW'S YOUR CHANCE

Fitness and Weight Loss Challenge for Moms

I am so excited to let you know that we are on again!

Holly has reopened the Fit Yummy Mummy Transformation Challenge and I couldn't be happier!

Since the last challenge ended, I've been doing well, but not as well as I was and I still have a few lbs to lose and a few muscles to build yet!

It's just in the nick of time too.

I've spent 2 weeks with the flu - you know what that means - missed work outs.

Fitness and Weight Loss Challenge for Moms

If you've been following my blog, you will remember the Fit Yummy Mummy Challenge that I participated in from Feb through April this year.

I'd like to drop a few more lbs and continue to firm up, but I am by far in better shape than I was when I began the challenge (as I sit here and type in my skinny jeans!).

The results are in for the final contestants, which is very exciting. I don't know who to vote for, there are some rockin' hot mama's and everyone has made some amazing changes.

I can't tell you how proud I am of each and every one of the Yummy Challenger's and how much fun it was to go through the process with them.

How to Drink More Water - Smart Tip #7

May 28th, 2008 · No Comments

Smart Tips for Optimum Nutrition

I often find myself challenged to drink more water, especially if I have fallen out of the habit.

Here are a few tips that I've found helpful.

  • Purchase a few glass water bottles that you can keep in the fridge and sterilize once in awhile, or replace them every so often. Fill them at night so that you have them ready for the next day. Drink them. No thinking or counting involved. I have two 750ml glass Perrier bottles that I like to use. If you prefer plastic, purchase a water bottle and be sure to dump anything you haven't drank through the day every night and give it a rinse. Fill it and put it in the fridge the night before for a quick solution in the morning.
  • Drink flavoured water or carbonated water to get you into the habit, then slowly work up to straight water.  I add a bit of juice, but lemon or a slice of cucumber to freshen it up is good too. I like lemon club soda as well - that's ok to use as a crutch until you are back in the swing of things, but it's not a good permanent solution because of the salt content and the carbonation can be hard on your stomach. If you are drinking fake sugar flavoured water, aim to use them to get you in the habit of drinking more water, but don't make them a permanent solution either. If you are using any additives in your water, be sure to clean your bottle daily.
  • Carry it with you. If you work at a desk, get it out of the fridge in the morning and take it to work and keep it at your desk (if you have more than one, you can store the other in the fridge). Get in the habit of taking a bottle with you when you travel, just be sure that you have a bathroom break scheduled somewhere along the way!

Healthy Sugar Substitute

May 17th, 2008 · No Comments

 Smart Tips for Optimum Nutrition

I stumbled upon a healthy substitute for sugar one morning while prying my eyeballs open making breakfast.

I recently started using plain yogurt with fruit and nuts/seeds and protein powder for breakfast instead of the flavoured kind that I had always used.

I made a discovery - it tastes just as good without being overly sweet.

This is great news for me because I am finding it increasingly difficult to find yogurt that isn't sweetened artificially.

Plain yogurt is the number one choice (balkan is amazing -it's thicker than normal plain yogurt - I LOVE it!).

Green Smoothie Recipes

Green Smoothies

When I first saw the recipe, frankly I was skeptical.

A green smoothie?

I could see that should putting spinach in a smoothie work out, it could be just what I was looking for to get a little extra quality greens into my diet.

So I went for it.

And to my surprise, it was fantastic.

At first I was very careful to follow the smoothie recipe to be sure that the spinach didn't somehow become overwhelming and the taste make my face turn, well… green.
