Tips for Staying Focused on Your WAHM Business
Following are a few tips for staying focused on your WAHM business. It can be one of the most important things you can do.
Staying focused on your business can be harder than doing the actual work of your business!Even if you are trying hard, it can take an iron will to avoid distractions and interruptions.
And some days… you just won't feel like it! On those days, it is very easy to procrastinate, especially when you are a WAHM. There are always ‘so many other things to do’.
First and formost - here is a secret that you may not have heard yet: The dishes can wait! The laundry can wait! So feel free to make those phone calls or answer those emails. The laundry and dishes will still be there, waiting for you!

First and formost - here is a secret that you may not have heard yet: The dishes can wait! The laundry can wait! So feel free to make those phone calls or answer those emails. The laundry and dishes will still be there, waiting for you!
However, if you wait too long to call a client back, they may have moved on to someone who gets back to them faster than you do.
But WHAT do you do with those dirty dishes and laundry so that staying focused on your WAHM business comes with a clear conscious? You create a schedule during your "off hours" and stick to it so that they never pile up or get to be an emergency situation.
Set a schedule for your work hours and home hours and stick to it as best you can. Then create time blocks for the work and home portion of your day. You can leave the details to do a day or week ahead. (This is a huge tip - If you do only one thing to keep you staying focused, do this).
Do your best to avoid interruptions - don't answer the phone - turn it off if you can, don't answer the door unless you have to and don't feel guilty about it. If it's important and a must answer, go ahead. If not, you can always make it up during your home hours. You must make the distinction to be truly staying focused in your business.
Think Big Picture
Why did you start your WAHM business in the first place? Did you need to bring in an extra $500 a month to pay off credit cards? Was it to put money away for your children’s college fund? Or was it to save for retirement? Whatever the reason, write it down and put it where you will see it on a daily basis. When you are feeling distracted, look at what you wrote down. Staying focused will be easier when you remember why you are working in the first place.
You may want to team up with another WAHM business owner who needs to help focusing as well. Send each other your goals and keep one another accountable. Call each other at the end of the day and discuss what you accomplished; you can share your successes or lend each other a sympathetic ear over things that didn’t go as you planned. One of the biggest things that you can put on your side is accountability, it motivates us even on those sluggish days. And the good news is, that once you jump in, you usually get your groove back in short order.
Stay motivated by setting daily, weekly and monthly goals. If you “work backwards” you will create a road map to your success. For instance, if you are in direct sales and your financial goal is to sell $1500 in product that month. Do the math and you’ll see that you need to sell $375 of product each week. Now, how many home parties do you need to hold each week to accomplish that? How many phone calls do you need to make each day in order to schedule those parties?
And what is more fun or motivating than accomplishing a goal? If you don't find that the accomplishment is enough, although it often is, reward yourself for a job well done with something you that you will enjoy but would not normally do for yourself.
It takes will power and self discipline to truly and consistently focus on your WAHM business, but it can be done and the longer you do it, the easier it gets.
