Back to School Things to Do

Get organized and target your list of back to school things to do for maximum effectiveness right out of the starting gate. Seize the opportunity and get a fresh start now that fall has come and the kids are back in school.

As much as we say we look forward to it, when the time comes we always find the days a little boring, the house a little lonely. So try out these effective back to school things to do ...

1 - Start to exercise in the morning before getting to work or during your mid morning break. Get a 15 minute work out video if you must - you will see and feel a difference. For peak performance, you must be physically, as well as mentally strong.

2 - Create your own house cleaning circuit. Allow at least 1/2 hour every morning for a clean and fresh start.

3 - Go for a walk at lunch time or break time, even a 15 minute walk will clear your head, get your blood pumping and help you avoid developing a flat hiney :0)

4 - Brainstorm ideas and direction for your business. Sit in your favourite chair 10 minutes each day with your favourite beverage (beer, tequila or other similar food groups are not recommended). You will be amazed at some of the great ideas you will be able to come up with and follow through on. Keep them in a notebook for easy reference. (One of the easier back to school things to do - we're only asking you to think!)

5 - Clean your desk. Nothing boosts productivity like a clean desk.

6 - Don't auto download your email. Check it at lunch time and once more at quitting time if you must. Direct truly important or timely email to a separate account for lightening quick checking more often if necessary. I have kept this account on webmail so a quick page refresh allows me to see if there is anything new. Email can be ultra time-consuming, don't let it be the only back to school things to do you get time for.

7 - Make a priority "to do" list of a few priority back to school things to do that you must do the next day. Make these a "must do" list, don't overwhelm, be sure that you can do them if you apply yourself. Put them where you can see them and develop the habit of doing them. As Brian Tracy says - "eat that frog".

8 - Schedule a "Get It Done Day" as soon as possible, now that your time is more your own again. Make a list of everything that you haven't done but should have done and do it. You won't believe the load that this will take off of you. And it will probably save you some money in late fees etc too.

9 - One more list to get through. Create a check list of non negotiables that you will do every day to boost your business. For example

· I will create a new offer to my website

· I will network - post a comment to a blog, a forum etc

· 1 will post one new webpage/article/blog entry

You can rotate these daily so that you do one of them every day. Over time, you will build results.

10 - Make a template for a daily schedule. You don't have to fill in the details, just make an outline that you will follow every day - when you will exercise, when you will do email, when you will do your 1/2 hour house cleaning circuit, when you will do project blocks. Play with it until it works for you, and then stick to it.

ONE MORE THING - Paint your toenails. It will make you feel more professional and put together when you are working in your bathrobe. OK, while that is fun sometimes, it is actually a good idea now that the kids are gone to spruce yourself up a bit, dress in something that makes you feel good and take a minute to comb your hair and put a bit of make up on. Sounds silly but you will actually feel more like facing the world.
