Kick Clutter to the Curb

Clutter can be like an unwanted guest. It can never take the hint. It just keeps coming around.

The more polite you are, the more it keeps coming. How can you send that messy pile that thinks it belongs packing?

Just say go. It's that easy.

HOW CAN IT BE THAT EASY?
WHAT DO YOU MEAN - JUST SAY GO?

When I say just say go, I mean that you need to draw the line. You need to set you inner boundary to zero. You need to have a 0 tolerance rule, that you are not only willing, but enthusiastically willing to enforce.

Otherwise, it will sneak in the door and you won't even know it's there until one day you realize that it has sapped all of your energy and time, and taken the joy and beauty from your life.

    Clutter is like that.

Even if it looks good at first. And it's very much a mind game. The trick is to make no space for it - inside your head or inside your house. And when it tries to sneak in the door, under the guise of good stuff, things you need or things that you are afraid to say no to... don't do it.

    JUST SAY GO!

    Just remember one word... GO!

As soon as you even think it, you will remember that you do not want that space hogging, time grubbing, money mooching guest in your house anymore.

Nothing feels as fresh and clean, inside and out, as a spacious room, filled with nothing but things you need and love. Even if it is a small space, it will feel spacious and it will indeed, feel like a load has been lifted from your mind.

You will have room to breath.  Ahhhh....

HOW CAN I STICK TO IT?

    Need a way to remember?

    • Write GO! in red letters on your dry erase board, day timer, or what every you use to keep your day in order.

    • Write it on a post it or in lipstick on your mirror.

    • Tattoo it on your forehead if you must (although I wouldn't recommend it, the last thing you need is a cluttered face!)

Just be sure to leave yourself a reminder to stay on track. Try it for a few days and see how much easier it is to keep clutter out of the picture.

You will find yourself wanting to get rid of it. And not wanting to let it in.

You will find yourself getting creative.

Wondering why you have had that ugly vase sitting in your livingroom collecting dust for 10 years. And how come you haven't even noticed it there for the past 9.

    That's clutter for you!

    THE SHORT AND SKINNY

Clutter doesn't live here any more.

    Say it out loud.

Shout it to the roof tops!

C-L-U-T-T-E-R DOES NOT LIVE HERE ANYMORE!

Don't you feel 10lbs lighter already?

Now you are ready to get serious?

You are probably looking around your house at the piles lurking in the background, trying to seem unassuming but happily sucking the life out of you and your family... and your thinking... I'm sick of it, I don't want clutter here anymore.

I wish there was a way I could just get rid of it!

    There is.

It's the same way I've been getting rid of it. I will never be the same again.

I'll let you in on a secret...

I LOVE GETTING RID OF CLUTTER NOW!

It's become my secret hobby. No one knows. My family think I'm just cleaning the house. But I'm really on a mission. And it shows. Big time.

And they are happier too. Even though they probably don't really know why. Sometimes they do. Like when they are looking for things and they can find them.

When they are relaxing and they can sit down on the couch with a cozy blanket instead of a pile of junk.

When they can open the cupboard and find edible food.

When they want me and I am calm and happy, instead of rushing around the house like a raving lunatic.

They are happy and they know it!

And I'm secretly mapping out my next target...

HOW DO I DO IT? WHY DO I LOVE IT?

Because I have a secret weapon up my sleeve.

It's a book called Declutter Fast and it really does help me to declutter fast.

Not only that, it almost makes a game out of it. A simple game that is fun because you see results - fast.

And you remember what it is like to breath again in your own house.

Now that's living.  Living without clutter.
